Captain Kohli has many records under his name and surely we won’t be surprised if he breaks another one. The skipper currently is on tour with the Indian team in West Indies and has successfully captained the squad to win the T-20 series with by 3-0. West Indies was white washed by a new age Indian squad which had a lot of new faces who are potential future of Indian cricket.
Kohli, is just 19 runs away from breaking another record. This time it will be Javed Miandad’s 26 year old record of being the highest run-scoring player against West Indies in the One day format. If Kohli manages to score more than 18 runs in the next match, he will be over taking ex Pakistan cricketer Miandad as highest run-scorer against West Indies in ODI cricket.
Miandad has a record of scoring 1930 runs in 64 innings against West Indies and he played his last match nearly 26 years ago and since then no one has been able to cross this figure. Of course, Miandad has his own legacy but after more than two decades, international cricket will see someone surpass this number. Honestly, who other than Kohli could have been the one to go beyond the targets which legends themselves set for the world.
As I earlier said, this would not be the first record that Kohli would be breaking or a first milestone that he would set. Let’s have a look at what other records he has to his name:
- Kohli is the fastest batsman to reach 10000 ODI runs. He took just 205 innings to the reach the milestone, breaking the record held by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who did it in 259 innings.
- Kohli is the first Indian captain to win a test series against Australia in Australia, a feat that was made possible in January 2019 under his leadership.
- He is also the first captain to hit 6 centuries in ODI’s in a calander year.
And one more record is set to be broken and many others will be set in future. That’s the Kohli magic!
