Nobody is entirely safe in the industry. Bollywood has predators everywhere. At least that’s what we can conclude after hearing that even Vidya Balan had rough experiences down the road. She had first-hand experience with the casting couch. Talking to Pinkvilla about her experience, she said:
One day I remember I was in Chennai and this director came to meet me. I said let’s sit in the coffee shop and he kept insisting that he wants to talk to me and that we should go to the room. I left the door of my room open and he left within five minutes. This incident suddenly struck me today when I’m talking about this.
And that’s not all, Balan had to overcome stigmas too, often associated with women in the industry. She received a lot of flak while she was new in the industry. She also had a rough experience when she was a struggler. Talking about the various comments she has got on her body image over time and how she no longer let them get under her skin, she said:
Someone wrote that ‘Dress like this, she has no business of getting out, she should stay indoors’. That had affected me so much that for the longest time, I would get dreams of it and get really angry. Today, I don’t let the noise get to me.
Vidya has come a long way since then and now is a truly inspiring female role model. She’s still riding high on the success of Mission Mangal and there are plenty more projects under her kitty. Way to go Vidya!
