India lost the third T-20 against South Africa and it seems that some factors will definitely be causing troubles for the men in blue in the upcoming T-20 world cup of year 2020.
The team is too dependent on the top order. If they do not perform then the middle-order seems to crumble too. This was the reason why the Indian cricket team lost at the semi-finals of ICC world cup-2019 against New Zealand. The top order crumbled like a house of cards and the rest of the batting line-up seemed to have lost their will to play.
We can’t just always depend on Kohli, Dhawan and Rohit for stabilizing the team. Of course, when the top-order plays well the middle-order players get confidence to continue the good play. But that does not mean that they hold no responsibility.
This puts unnecessary pressure on the first three players and team has still not been able to decide who is the best person for the number-4 position. Common this is being discussed since the start of 2019 world cup and is still a question that seems to have no answer to it.
Skipper Virat Kohli’s capabilities as a player have never been questioned but they surely are being questioned as a captain. The team selection seems to be very irresponsible and there seems to be a weird sort of pressure on Rishabh Pant. Since a few weeks now the narrative is being established that Pant needs to be dropped and other players like Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson and Shubhman Gill need to be giver more opportunities.
Pant surely is under a lot of pressure. He has been playing recklessly and the fact that he can’t be rendered as dependable right now is something that clears it up that we need to push Iyer up the order. I have already questioned Iyer being ignored by the selectors and Pant being given extra weightage even though the boy clearly needs to get back to domestic cricket.
Then there are players like Shubhan Gill who fortunately has been selected in the test squad as K.L.Rahul was dropped after his consitent bad performance. Team selection as well has Kohli’s hold as a captain and his decision making skills are being questioned. And why won’t they be? the world cup is near, we badly lost at the semis and now with the ongoing test championship and team’s trouble with the middle order there seems to be no solution even though there are a lot of better options.
Former cricketer Ajit Agarkar even pointed out that why was Pant getting so much media attention, why put so much pressure with all the comparisons that the player sccumbs to it. Well that is also right but high point that team management, coach and captain do something about it or we cannot eye the T-20 cup.
