How shocked will you be on the scale of 1 to 10 if you get to know that Taylor Swift wants to rent out your space? Probably 100, right? But not apparently David Aldea, the housing executive in question. He didn’t even recognised Taylor, well at least at first. Aldea was the landlord of Swift when she rented out space on Cornelia Street because her actual home was getting renovated.
Aldea has a perfect explanation, however, for not recognising Taylor. It’s simple actually, he’s just not a pop guy!
Aldea told Vulture:
I’m afraid to tell you this, but I will tell you this: I really didn’t know her. I’m just not a pop culture guy, and I even said to someone, ‘I’m meeting a person named Taylor Swift who wants to rent my home.’ Now, mind you, I knew her songs because I had them on my running playlist. I just didn’t match the name to the song. I know, it’s silly.
But the obscurity didn’t stay for long. Aldea soon got to know it’s ‘the’ Swift. Talking about his experience of showing her the apartment, he said:
She walked in, and I’ll never forget this—she said, ‘Oooh, it’s so crafty. And in Taylor-speak, that means ‘I like everything.’ She asked if she could rent not just the house but my style as well. So, towels and dishes and glassware and furniture and just kind of ‘Take your clothes and go.’ So I did. She was an absolute delight to deal with.
Swift also wrote a song about her new lil’ home, of course. Cornelia Street is on Lover and like many other songs on the album, it too revolves around her lover Joe Alwyn. She’s basically telling us in this song that she’s never gonna walk the street again if her relationship with him went sour. Just too many memories for her! However, she hasn’t missed out on deets of the apartment itself in her song lyrics. And Aldea picked up on it and is actually super-happy now that she chose his space. Speaking about the song references, he said:
She was probably talking about the outdoor space off her master bedroom, because I had that set up as sort of an outdoor living room. And there’s artificial turf on the ground and stuff, so it felt like you were outdoors but indoors, and there was a fireplace outside. It was very, very private.
He also stated the place became a crazy place after people got to know that Swift is living there. He stated:
It was a zoo on the street for probably the first two months.
Right, not everybody is not a pop guy, Aldea.
Taylor’s Lover album is currently no. 1 at Billboard and she’s now prepping for her massive Lover tour. How stoked are you on the scale of 1 to 10? Prolly 100, right?
