Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been away from international cricket since July now. After India’s devastating loss against New Zealand in the world cup semi-finals, the former skipper has been on a break.

After the world cup loss, it was announced that Dhoni will be serving the army regiment he is an honorary member of, for some time. But since then there has been no clear statement about his future in the game. Recently it was asked to him if he would be retiring soon and he clearly stated that the question should be avoided till next year at least.

Former Indian player and skipper Sunil Gavaskar was questioned on his thoughts about Dhoni’s inclusion in the squad for the upcoming T20 world cup.

He said, “Fitness is something that I can’t tell you anything at all. The question that needs to be asked is of MSD himself. He has not made himself available to play for India since 10th of July (9th actually). That is an important question. Does anybody keep himself away from playing for India for that long? That is the question and therein lies the answer.”

Recently Indian head coach Ravi Shastri had also said that Dhoni might be ending his ODI career soon.

But the question still remains the same and one cannot come to a conclusion unless Dhoni himself announces anything. There have been a lot of rumours lately about him announcing his retirement but there hasn’t been any clear statement from the player himself.

Let us hope that we get to see him play soon.
