Remember there was a time when actresses in Bollywood were just used as a showpiece, you know, someone who would just notch up the glam factor in the movies? Yeah, that’s not very far back in time, so you must remember. But things have so much changed now. From having female-centric movies to films which show actresses in empowering, meaty roles are what’s hot now. Actresses which are relatively stable in their career don’t see much point in being the ‘Bond girl’ anymore. However, when an A-lister does a film with a minuscule role in a film, that too when she has plenty of things going on for her, it certainly raises eyebrows. And that’s exactly what happened in the case of Sara Ali Khan recently. The Coolie No. 1 actress has opted for Rohit Shetty’s Simmba in which she’ll have very less screen time. And the reason? Well, she’s a fan of Shetty! No questions asked. She explains anyway though:
I was very keen to work with Rohit sir and I am a fan of his work. I think that it was a different opportunity for me after Kedarnath. I think that somewhere movie business is a collaborative one and there are films and stories that you want to be a part of even if you don’t have a lot of screen time. This is why I decided to be part of Simmba and Rohit sir was nice enough to cast me.
She further clarified:
The reason for which I have chosen to become an actor is the fact that I aspire for versatility in the genres of films that I do and in the kind of roles that I portray. I don’t think that you can necessarily have a lot of screen time in every single film that you are a part of. Sometimes you do films because there are certain directors that you want to work with or there is a certain genre that you want to be a part of.
Well, that makes sense! Do what you want Sara. No one is judging.
