What do you all think of the weather in Manchester? It’s funny how Manchester rains can be at the receiving end of so many Indian curses.
It’s ICC cricket world cup-2019 and the semifinal match of India versus New Zeland got suspended for the day and will continue on the 10th of July. Rains have been a cause of disruption in many matches of this tournament, India’s match against Kiwis during the group stage was also cancelled due to untimely showers. Both the teams shared the match point then, but of course same can’t happen during the semifinal match of the tournament. Fans are very disappointed and ICC has been criticized for the poor planning structure.
Kiwis came in to bat first
Today’s match saw Kiwis winning the toss and opting to bat first. The Indian bowling attack once again did an amazing job at crippling the opposition’s batting line up. It was a disappointing start for the men in blue as skipper Virat Kohli wasted away their only review at the first ball of the game bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Both Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah bowled one maiden over each before giving away a single run to the Kiwis.
The New Zeland‘s opening pair, which has been struggling since the start of the tournament played very slow and got out without making much of a difference. Martin Guptill was caught out by Virat Kohli on a delivery bowled by Bumrah, scoring just a single run in 14 balls while Henry Nicholls was clean bowled by Ravindra Jadeja at 28(51).
The dangerous Kane Williamson was sent away by Yuzvendra Chahal at 67(95) while Hardik Pandya who was struggling with some pain in lower abdomen took Jimmy Nisham’s wicket. Colin de Grandhomme had to go back at 16(10) at the hand of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. While Ross Taylor will continue batting tomorrow at 67*(85).
The match was stopped during the first innings itself in 46th over. New Zeland still has 4 overs to play and the scoreboard is at 211/5 in 46.1 overs. The match won’t be restarted but both the teams will continue to play from where they left. The rains are forecasted for the reserved the day as well and if the rains disrupt the play then the team which holds the higher position on the charts will proceed to the finals. This means that in the case of washout India will move to the finals as they are at the top of the points table while New Zeland is at number four. The fans, of course, are dreading rainfall and surely would want team India to play and win the match.
Let’s have a look at the scoreboard:
Let’s all sing “Rain, rain go away little Virat wants to play“ to make sure that rain Gods do not disrupt the match this time.
