Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni’s future in the game has been in questions since he declared his sabbatical after the world cup 2019’s semi-finals. A lot of questions have been asked to the board itself but the answers haven’t been much clear regarding the return of the former skipper.
“As far as we are concerned, we are backing youngsters and giving them as many opportunities to settle well and play long, Mahi will take a decision for himself. As a panel member, if I keep professional duty aside, I am as big a fan of Dhoni as anyone else. He has achieved everything under the sun winning two World Cups, the Champions Trophy, the No. 1 Status in Tests. Nobody can question that. About his career, he will take a call. As selectors, our duty is to move on and identify the next generation of players and keep giving them chances.”MKS Prasad, Indian selector.
When asked about his retirement, Dhoni had clearly stated that this question should be avoided until the year 2020. There hasn’t been any other statement from the player as of now. Moreover, players like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer have been doing quite good. Rahul has been keeping the wickets quite well too and with the T20 world cup coming up this year, fans are eager to know if Dhoni will be back in the squad.
It clear from Prasad’s statement that the decision solely depends on Dhoni and it is the board’s responsibility to nurture new players.
