Dhoni fan or not a Dhoni fan we all know that sooner or later a time will come when M.S. Dhoni will retire from cricket. But let’s be practical he is 38 now and India does need a dependable wicket-keeper/batsman.
Rishabh Pant is still under the process and is already a selector favourite and K.L. Rahul is also another option. Reports say that selectors will likely ignore Dhoni’s name for T-20’s against South-Africa and Rishabh Pant will be preferred.
Dhoni has already retired from test cricket and with the T-20 world cup coming up in Australia next year selectors want to put much of the responsibility on Pant.
But my question is What is Pant doing? Pant is being many chances in this ongoing tour in West Indies. Okay! I understand he needs those chances but I also think that it is being done at the cost of players like Shreyas Iyer. Iyer who has already proved his worth many times was ignored for the T-20 series against West Indies despite his good performance from the India-A side.
They just can’t blindly keep on giving Pant more opportunities when many other people might be on the list. Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan’s name has also come up for some likely additions.
I have already written a piece on Rishabh Pant, do check it out:
