With the ICC women’s T20 world cup starting this week, the team’s are super excited and seem to be perfectly ready for it. The fans are also eagerly waiting to see the ladies slay the grounds. It is exciting to see such tremendous support for women’s cricket and it will definitely be a boost for all the players.
The first match will be taking place on the 21st of February, Friday, between India and Australia at Spotless Stadium, Sydney, Australia.
ICC posted a picture of all the skippers standing with their back to the camera, enjoying their view.
It is good to see that the tournament is being promoted on such a large scale as it will be empowering for sportswomen and athletes all around the world. In the spirit of the game and in the spirit of womanhood!. We hope to see India lift the cup.
KL Rahul (the potato) has retained his position in the ICC rankings for T20 batsmen. He still holds the second place with 823 points while Pakistan’s Babar Azam is at number one with 879 points.
Rahul is currently going through a great phase. The Indian cricket team has started to depend on him and his flexibility with his batting positions is something that makes him even more reliable.
Moreover, his wicket-keeping skills are also being appreciated and he has been keeping the wickets since Rishabh Pant got a concussion during India vs Australia. Indian skipper Virat Kohli had stated that they will be preferring Rahul behind the wickets and Rahul too has shown great efficiency and skill as a keeper. Rahul scored 224 runs in the five matches against New Zealand with an average of 56.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who stood at number-9 in the ICC charts has dropped down a position and now stands at number-10. England’s Eoin Morgan has replaced him to be at the ninth place after scoring 136 runs from three innings against Australia.
Rishabh Pant has been struggling with his form since the past six months now and did not play a single ODI or T20 against New Zealand. Pant played an amazing knock today.
He went on to score 70 runs in 65 balls. He hit 4 fours and four sixes with a massive strike rate of 107.69. This is a good sign for the team as well as Pant. After losing the ODI series by 5-0, it is important for India to make a come back in the test series.
The first test starts on 21st of February while practice tests against New Zealand XI are going on.
Other than Pant, Mayank Agarwal hit 81 of 99 balls today. The match was drawn as India scored 252/4 in the second inning and New Zealand didn’t get a chance to come for a second inning.
It will be an amazing sight to see if Rishabh Pant continues to maintain a good form and with the T20 world cup coming up this year, it is important for him to establish himself as a dependable player. With KL Rahul being the preferred choice as a wicketkeeper it will be difficult for Pant to save himself a spot in the team.
Indian bowler, Ishant Sharma had been struggling with an injury since past few weeks now. The right-handed medium pacer got injured while playing a Ranji match in Arun Jaitly stadium, New Delhi. The injury was declared to be of grade-six and he was advised to rest for six weeks.
His position in the Test squad for the Test series against New Zealand was subjected to his fitness. Now that he has passed the fitness test, he will be back in the team.
He wasn’t expected to be back so soon as he was advised to rest for a period of six weeks. With Jasprit Bumrah struggling with his form and Kuldeep Yadav out of the squad, India’s bowling attack will be under tremendous pressure in this series.
Moreover, the 3-0 loss in the ODI series against New Zealand will be adding some extra weight onto the shoulders of the team. The first test starts from 21st of February.
MS Dhoni’s future in the game of cricket has been in questions since he announced a sabbatical after India’s loss in the world cup semi-finals against New Zealand. Almost everyone prominent in the world of cricket has made a statement regarding this but there hasn’t been any official word from the former skipper himself. With the Indian Premier League starting next month, the chairman of the league Rajiv Shukla has spoken up regarding Dhoni.
“Dhoni is a great cricketer and there is a lot more cricket left in him. But, he has to decide when he should take retirement”, Shukla told reporters in Indore.
