Some say he’s obnoxious, some find him totes adorable, while others see a role model in him. Ranveer Singh or Baba (as he’s affectionately called) has been in the industry for 10 years now and today turns 34 years old! And from what it seems, his contagious energy, positive bubbliness, and crazy success are only increasing in strength. But do you wonder what he was like in his younger or pre-stardom days? What happened when the camera wasn’t there? Well, let’s see…

1. He Was Sooo Filmy

Ranveer Singh Childhood
What did you tell your parents when they asked the 5-year-old you the cliché question ‘What do you want to become when you grow up?’? You might have replied with the cliché answer of doctor, engineer or the innocent ‘I don’t know’. But Ranveer had a decisive answer – a superstar. Apparently, the Singh was bitten by the acting bug quite early in his life and was often described as ‘filmy’. And like a typical filmy fan, the kiddo Ranveer didn’t mind showing some dance moves to catchy Bollywood tunes back then! He was even once suspended from his school for a day because he couldn’t stop listening to Chaiyya Chaiyya song during the class. They knew they had a star in making!

2. He Changed His Last Name

Although Ranveer Singh is now a household name, he himself actually didn’t believe in his own name! Did you know his name used to be Ranveer Singh Bhavnani! He didn’t think it could be a bankable name in the industry and also felt that it was too long and not much memorable. He got Singh from his grandfather who was a Sikh and continued with that. As he wishes!

3. He Rejected a Series of Films before Signing Band Baaja Baaraat

Ranveer was quite conscious how he makes his first impression in Bollywood, a bit evident from the way he was particular about his name. Before signing the Yashraj’s Band Baaja Baaraat, he rejected not one, not two, but three films! His knowledge from gained from sitting in front of the TV and analyzing each and everything in good old days must’ve come handy. He kind of knew what would work for him and what would not. And he was over the moon when he got the big role in YRF.

He told mid-day “Ranbir Kapoor said no to ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’. YRF was looking for a new face I got a call and I knew this was the opportunity I was waiting for. I kept my face safe and didn’t do modelling or music videos. And then I got a massive launch, essentially for an ‘outsider’, opposite a reasonably recognisable star Anushka Sharma.”

4. His First Job Was of a Creative Writer

Though he had been dreaming of becoming a star from his very early days, he didn’t go headfirst into acting after college. His first ever job was of a copywriter in an advertisement agency. Reportedly, he ran to the corridor of his office to cry heartily when he was offered Aditya Chopra’s wedding planner drama.

5. He’s the Guy Who Took Arts

Do you know BABA has a degree from one of the highly reputed universities in the USA? Ranveer studied Theatres there and is Indiana University’s Art graduate! Yeah, we can’t believe it either.

6. He’s a Totes Mama’s Boy

True, Ranveer is super close to his mother. But unlike in other cases where it could look borderline crazy, it is totes adorable in Ranveer’s case. He’s so cute, we can’t even imagine he wouldn’t hug his mother every time he sees her. It just makes sense somehow.

7. He’s Sonam Kapoor’s Maternal Cousin

Ranveer Singh is the son of the aunt of Sonam. Can you imagine pre-teens Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam, and Ranveer hanging out together at home and out there? This bunch must’ve created some ruckus in their time.
