Abhishek Bachchan, according to me is one of the most underrated actors of the Indian film industry. The reason is that he was never able to shine as much as his father, Amitabh Bachchan did. The constant comparison between father and son has been the root cause of junior Bachchan’s rocky career path. Here’s a list of 3 movies which deserve much more appreciation than they got:
- Delhi 6– Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra’s take on old Delhi was not received well at the box office but was critically appreciated. The depiction of old Delhi as an entirely different city than the other parts of Delhi is beautiful. The storyline follows the journey of a grandson-grandmother duo, Abhishek Bachchan and Wahida Rahman who come all over from America to their ancestral house in Delhi6. Raushan’s (Abhishek Bachchan) little adventures in the city, how his perspective of real India changes and his love for Bittu (Sonam Kapoor) blooms in the midst of chaos is narrated in a very unorthodox fashion. The script is class apart and the entire cast of the film was well assembled. The music by A.R. Rahman received good reviews from the audience with tracks like Masakkali, Sarusal Genda Phool and Rehna Tu.
- Yuva- This 2004, Mani Ratnam film had Ajay Devgn, Vivek Oberoi, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee, Esha Deol and Abhishek Bachchan as the star cast. The movie showcased corrupt politicians and how a handful of student leaders overcome the local leaders and win elections. In midst of all this Lallan Singh (Abhishek Bachchan) is a hired goon of a political party who ends up shooting the student leader Michael Mukherjee (Ajay Devgn). Lallan’s struggle with his own conscious and strained relationship with his wife Shashi, (Rani Mukherjee) who wants him to lead an honest living is beautifully portrayed by Bachchan. His facial expressions clearly show the confusion his character faces. If you haven’t watched Yuva then do it just for Junior B’s flawless performance.
- Guru- Directed by Mani Ratnam, this 2007 movie had Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in lead roles and narrated the story Gurukant Desai a common man who wishes to be a successful businessman. He along with his wife and brother-in-law start clothing trade which eventually grows up to be a successful venture. His eventual growth and struggles with legal charges and how he gets out of them is an inspiring story to watch.
